Deb and Ian's Story
We'd first like to congratulate you on your pregnancy, it is definitely an exciting time in your life. We also commend you in your search for a natural birth for your child. It really is the best birthday present you can ever give!
We first heard of the Bradley Method® during our first pregnancy. The method came highly recommended by one of Deb's colleagues. He couldn't stress enough how great the birth was for him and his wife, it was the best experience of their lives. I knew immediately that this was the childbirth education we were looking for. Ian was happy to go along with whatever I decided was right. Sadly the pregnancy ended in miscarriage, but we knew when the time came again we would be looking for a Bradley Method® teacher.
The time did finally come and we were so excited! I registered for Rhonda Gordon's class right away. We were not disappointed. The classes provided everything we needed - knowledge of the natural process, and skills to manage labour. Abigail was born pretty much how I had visualized it. We laboured at home as long as possible and then went to the hospital. My labour was what I would call painless, in fact I questioned whether we should be going because the contractions just were not painful. Ian reminded me of their timing and my bout of nausea getting out of the shower and we were on our way. Just as I had visualized, I was fully dilated and ready to push my baby out when we were examined at the hospital. There was no time for anesthesia, and I certainly didn't want or need any. 45 minutes later she was born and it was truly amazing and awesome! Things couldn't have gone better. We were so glad that we had taken Bradley Method® classes! What we did not expect was how much closer and stronger Ian and I became as a couple, which served to allow great bonding with little Abigail.
We loved our little family and were having so much fun together, it's not surprising that we wanted more children. So about a year and a half later we were expecting again and were just as euphoric as the first time. We discussed what we could have changed about Abigail's birth. Nothing, as it was absolutely beautiful, but I remembered how difficult the car ride was (I had a definite urge to push). We decided that we would hire midwives and have this baby in the comfort of our own home. It was another great experience! After a very interesting labour (which stalled because big sister needed me) that I would describe as painful, Geraldine was born at home in the bathtub of our master suite. We felt so blessed to be able to experience this amazing journey.
We are so excited to be able to share our story with you. We'd be honoured to help you on your way to have an incredible birth to remember.
Warm Wishes,
Deb and Ian Munro AAHCC
